WEVents 4th Anniversary Party: the RETRO YOU! (Part2/2)
Note: Continued from Part 1.
The Retro Queen Contest:
For the Retro Queen Contest, there are 9 candidates. Each of contestant must dress up and perform either a dance/song of olden times.
1# Dilina Kamarudin – Did a noble deed; danced & performed a tribute to AWAM (All Women’s Action Movement).
2# Jenny Ma – sang a soothing classical Chinese song & performed a danced inspired by the Butterfly Lovers. As a fan of various dances, myself; it was my favourite dance performance that night.
Video: Jenny Ma performing a classical Chinese dance inspired by the Butterfly Lovers story.
3# Nicole Chang – stepped on the stage shyly while I was busy stuffing myself. But her voice made my jaw dropped & turned around *freeze, turn around 180 degrees*. She transported us back to another time, another place. A lady that defined grace under fire, she sang an impactful 60’s Chinese classical song. (*too bad! I did not manage to record her performance!)
4# Sakinah – danced & delivered an English love song that got me bouncing up with glee.
5# Anna Lau – cha cha dance flirtatiously in her cheongsam reminds me of yesteryears gathering in 80’s place. When I get older, I want to be able to “still” dress & dance like her! LOL.
6# Yong Choy Peng – in her adorably sweet 70’s style sang “On Top of the World”. It’s a popular hit song in the 70’s & 80’s. Deep inside, I went “finally! A song that I can sing along! Yes! I know the lyrics! Ahahahaaaha”. A nostalgic cheerful song got us nodding our head-tapping our feet-and hands.
7# Betty Liew – dressed in the 80’s, strutted & shake all disco moves to Staying Alive; making the Bee Gees & John Travolta and us very aah aah aah aaah Happy!
( Secretly, I was hoping someone might perform an ABBA song or even YMCA – that would be so awesome! )
8# Ally Low – tall, ladylike, elegant in cheongsam; like a character from 30’s Shanghai golden days! She sang the popular evergreen Chinese number “The Moon Represents My Heart”
9#Cat Ho – the sassy sexy lady with long legs delivered an emotional “Kissing A Fool”. It’s the type of song that makes our heart feel ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’; weep a bit, rejoice a bit.. thinking back of past mistakes or even lovers *ahem ahem*. Her performance deeply immersed with the song.
Marks were given by each participants & while the committee member generate the results we proceed to other activities...
Activity 3: Best Dressed Award
There were styles from the 20’s till the 90’s. Whoever gets the loudest cheer wins!
The winner goes to ‘ada gaya, ada rupa’ (got styles, got the looks) the red hot disco babe, Rupa Malini.
Activity 4: Best Photo of the Night
Diggy dig dig.. we dug our most nostalgic photos.
Events 5: Most Supportive...
Most Participative Volunteer prize went to Nikki Law. All cheers! This dynamite lady is like the Energizer Bunny. Zoom here, zoom there dishing out activities, being our “sifu” in dance & games. Without her zany, quirky & creative juice, most of us would probably be huddled in the corner exercising our mouth on crackers only.
Most Supportive Blogger, Yong Choy Peng also the 2nd runner up Retro Queen contest. Multitalented in many ways (I Loved her Korean Japanese performance last year!); she dishes out blogposts equally fast. Always fuelled with passion & determination.
Most Regular attendee goes to Ong Mei Leng who also won the RM300 Marquise Pâtisserie Chocolate Hamper during the lucky draws. Emcee, Freda joked if she should switch place & have it.
There were 3 rounds of lucky draws all sponsored by Amante Nail and Spa, Ms Read/Dude & Duchess/Sundays, Jurlique, Color Culture (OPI), Jurlique and Marquise Pâtisserie Chocolaterie – very generous! Don’t you feel joining us next year?

All the contestants displayed great talent, courage & creativity. I could not imagine myself singing without laughing like a hyena on the stage. So bravo girls!
The night ended abruptly with us turning into zombies & doing the thriller dance to the delight of Nikki Law in disguised as a Vampire Queen.. HAHA.. NOPE!
Well, the night ended with me stuffing as much food as I can. It was a hot night for me as I walked around a lot. Thus my face was shining with sweat haha.. & then Nikki Law appeared on stage. With a mischievous grin on her face, we all know she’s up to something…
She shouted with enthusiasm “Now It’s TIME TO PARTYYYYY!!! Come on everyone, get up! DANCE! Faster, let’s gather around for line dance!”
True Malaysian style, we creeped slowly & shyly, in ultra slow-motion . Blushing in between.
Nikki’s expression were like “Oiiii… fasteeerrr laaah”
But it generated the opposite effect; gravity never worked much harder.
Eventually, (luckily!) she taught us various dance movements. She is after all a dance teacher, a good one too! We did all the line moves – thriller, cha cha, shakes, disco & many more.
This is my first time sharing out a Party post publicly under this site. It’s not professionally done – thus the photo & vids. are passable. Feel free to link/drop a message. Hope all the visitors had a good time reading this post & for the Ladies, feel free to join WEVents in the next round.
It’s been 2 weeks since the party ended, as I wrote this post. Browsing again, I noticed myself smiling like a silly monkey. My videos and photos are mostly up & alive, it took me some time to redraft the post. Mostly because of ALL the things I wanted to say.. “Oh-my-English-apa-rojak-ini-so-fail-lor!!” but one thing I noticed was because of this year’s event, I have gained so MANY MORE Facebook & Instagram friends. Life grow’s when you open your heart & mindset to it
Thank you WEVents, each & everyone there whom I have met, spoke to & seen but did not have the chance to know. It’s been memorable & thanks for being part of it!
